Tour Description

We are going hiking away from all too touristy sites and trails. The main draws for northern Estonia are the Lahemaa National Park and Kõrvemaa Nature Reserve. Perfect for a day trip out of Tallinn, these serve as an authentic taster of natural and cultural landscapes in Estonia.

Located on the northern coast of Estonia, Lahemaa is perfect for a hiking trip and nature watching. Here you will find stony and sandy seashores, picturesque bogs, pine and cliff forests, and rivers that cut into the limestone cliff.  We are going to drive through the park, visit some picturesque small villages and see some beautiful old manor houses on the way. Afterward, there is a chance for a tasty lunch in an authentic local tavern.

Located south of the national park, the large forested Kõrvemaa area is home to moose, wild boars, brown bears, lynxes, foxes, and other wild animals. Many hiking trails combine so many different landscapes that it seems like you travel through different countries. Most people come to Kõrvemaa for its forests, lakes, and marshes. Here you can wander across the wooden trails in local bogs, climb the hills and go hiking on sandy roads in the wilderness. There are over 100 different lakes in Kõrvemaa alone. The hike will take up to 3 hours and require moderate physical preparation. It’s a good place for some amazing nature photography or just relaxing by the lake in a pine forest.

He was a nice and friendly guy. He is definitely the guy you’re looking for if you would like to visit more than just the Old Town in Tallinn. He introduced some landmarks which you definitely had not been there before, prepared some brochures for you to read and learn about Estonia and also a little gift. He drove me to several places outside Tallinn such as Jägala Waterfall, Lahemaa National Park, Sagadi mõis and also an abandoned submarine base. We had Estonian Cuisines at Viitna Kõrts (roadside tavern) such as crispy black bread with garlic dipping sauce, dried blood-mixed dumplings, fried herring fillets with “Mulgipuder” potato porridge and cottage cheese as well as kamajook which is a traditional drink karma with keefir. Thank you for the wonderful day spent!

Our guide took us out for the day to explore Lahemaa national park, where we got to see some bogs and see just enough nature for us city folk. He also took us to a few manor houses, to a tavern to recharge with some food, and showed us a bit of Tallinn too. If you’re lucky enough to have him, then you should definitely take him up on it.

Our guide was a great person. I was very lucky to meet him when I was visiting Estonia. He offered me to join him on a half day trip to a National park and surroundings – beautiful landscapes of forests, bogs and Baltic sea coast. He also showed me a lighthouse, the one I wanted to see, and took me to a local wine tasting event. I have spent really great time with him that day. He is a knowledgeable person, very interesting to talk to. He knows a lot about his country and his city and gladly share his knowledge with travellers. He is also a very thoughtful and helpful person. Thank you very much!

He took me to Lahemaa national park just outside of Tallinn. A great day trip if you did the old town already! He drove me to several interesting places. Nature, historical sites and even a abandoned Russian submarine base! He is a very nice and calm person. Is able to tell you all about Estonia and even gave me a reflector (mandatory at night in Estonia!). As well he introduced me to the Estonian Cuisine (a must eat)! Keep on promoting this little gem in the Baltic! I loved it!
